Dear Editor:
We were grateful to have you attend the local Department of Mississippi, American Legion Auxiliary (ALA), Cooper Yerger Unit 28 luncheon on February 29, 2024, to honor our National Chaplain, Brister Thomas, who was visiting from Honolulu, Hawaii.
Hosting this Leap Day celebration, we served 35 members and guests from throughout the state, that included our Mississippi President, Cindy Harper and six other officers.
The photo you included with your article was perfect as it showed Sara Lassiter, Mississippi’s ALA Chaplain, presenting Chaplain Thomas with a plaque to commemorate this rare occasion in her visit to the town she calls home.
As noted in your article, the American Legion Auxiliary is a non-profit organization, established by the U.S. Congress in 1919 and although we are part of the American Legion family, we are independent of the Legion in our individual Unit charters, memberships and officers.
We are proud to currently stand 104 years strong with our main objective to serve and assist the American Legion in their support of our Veterans, their families and their needs.
Thank you again for being a part of our day and helping us to write the history of this special occasion not only to our local community but the state of Mississippi.
For God and Country,
Mary Jo Abraham, President
Cooper Yerger Unit 28
Clarksdale, Miss.
