The Clarksdale Police Department has arrested two people on charges of aggravated assault that occurred this week in two separate incidents in Clarksdale.
Police are still investigating and have not announced arrests as of Friday morning in the shooting at the Juke Joint Festival last weekend that injured three people.
Clarksdale Police arrested Gene Dabbs Jr., 19, on Thursday, April 28 for aggravated assault. Police allege Dabbs shot into an occupied vehicle in the 1500 block of Seventh Street Wednesday.
Clarksdale Police have taken Davalin Melton Jr., 17, into custody on Friday, April 29 on charged of aggravated assault. Police allege Melton shot into an occupied vehicle in the 200 block of Lynn Street on April 27.
Aggravated assault is defined as injury or threat to a person to make them fear for their life or assault with a weapon. It is punishable by up to 20-years in prison and a $10,000 fine. An adult who assaults a juvenile can find the penalty enhanced to 30-years in prison.
Aggravated assault is a felony and shooting into a home can also be deemed a felony if prosecutors and judges wish to pursue it.
Persons under the age of 18 are legally juveniles, but can be charged as adults based on their age and the severity of the crime.
The Coahoma County Sheiff’s Department has not said if an arrest has been made in the shooting of a Jonestown man in a Jonestown park early Saturday morning.
A statement issued by the Coahoma County Sheriff’s Department said 911 was called at about 4:15 a.m. Saturday by a person located near the park off of Main Street in Jonestown.
When officers responded they found a black male dead from a gunshot. The man was later identified at Tremaine Hunter, 38.
